Originally designed by Alvar Aalto in 1947, Armchair 45 returns to the collection to bring warmth and refinement to contemporary interiors. The chair’s lightweight design is elevated by a blend of crafted details, all made from natural materials. There are several options available for the armrests: they can be adorned with piped leather or rattan winding to add further depth to the tactile experience; a leather flat wrap can be chosen when a smooth and soft touch is desired; or the armrest can simply be bare birch when simplicity is the order of the day. The Finnish birch frame is upholstered in quilted leather for utmost comfort, or natural linen webbings for more informal and relaxed settings.

The chair is equally at home around the dining table, behind a writing desk or as a statement of intent at the heart of the living area. The potential for commercial use, in dining areas, meeting rooms or working spaces is evidenced by how its creator used it; many archival photographs show Alvar Aalto sitting in a leather upholstered version in his Tiilimäki studio.
