Inka Bell "Antimatter" exhibition at 2nd Cycle 25.4-8.6.2019
Welcome to the opening reception of Inka Bell exhibition “Antimatter” on Thursday 25th of April, at 17-19 at Artek 2nd Cycle.
The exhibition is composed of a screen print series, thematically based on the dichotomy of matter and antimatter. In her series artist Inka Bell explores how matter can appear in our surroundings, and what would happen if antimatter were to substitute it.
In a departure from her usual methods, Bell intentionally refrained from using a computer. She has constructed a new type of methodology for herself, governed by the random printing and working of materials instead of by strict planning or composition. Bell's pieces and processes playfully tackle various kinds of polarities and ask the question, "is randomization an act or an anti-act?"
Inka Bell (b. 1981) is an artist living and working in Helsinki. Her work often visualizes observations from the physical and abstract space that is created when the present meets the future. Bell is fascinated by subjects that are so extensive that they are difficult to grasp in total, such as the phenomena of outer space. She approaches these via abstract minimalism, exploring the role of the line or the shape, and how much can be expressed with so little. Paper plays a central role in her work, which she uses for printing or shaping into new forms.
